Futurise at Power & Energy Kenya 2026: Exploring Smart and Prepaid Metering Opportunities in East Africa

Sep 15,2026

Futurise recently participated in Power & Energy Kenya 2026 in Nairobi, an important regional exhibition for the power, electrical, renewable energy and energy technology industries.

The 13th edition of Power & Energy Kenya was held from July 29 to 31, 2026, at the Carnivore Exhibition Grounds in Nairobi. According to Kenya's State Department for Energy, the exhibition brought together more than 300 energy companies from over 20 countries, creating an important platform for manufacturers, suppliers, investors and industry professionals to exchange ideas and explore business opportunities across Africa.

For Futurise, the event was more than an opportunity to display products. It was a valuable opportunity to meet distributors, contractors, property managers and energy professionals and to better understand the practical requirements of the Kenyan and wider East African metering market.

Meeting the Growing Demand for Smart and Prepaid Metering

As a Smart Meter Manufacturer and Smart Meter Company, Futurise focuses on developing and supplying prepaid and smart electricity metering solutions for different applications.

During the exhibition, visitors showed strong interest in single- phase and three- phase meters, STS prepaid systems, DIN- rail meters, sub- metering solutions and communication technologies.

Customers looking for Wholesale Smart Meter solutions raised questions about meter accuracy, certification, communication interfaces, prepaid functions, vending systems, installation and after- sales support.

These conversations highlighted an important point: selecting a meter is not simply a matter of comparing product specifications. A successful metering project needs to consider the complete system, including the meter, communication method, vending platform, installation environment, certification requirements and long- term technical support.

For residential and small commercial applications, our QPM16 portfolio provides solutions for individual units, rental properties and small electrical installations. As a Experienced Metering Solution Company, Futurise offers tailored solutions to meet diverse customer requirements. Whether for industrial power consumption, electricity management in rental properties, or retail & wholesale businesses, we recommend the most suitable solutions accordingly.

Strong Interest in STS Prepaid Electricity Metering

One of the most important topics discussed at Power & Energy Kenya was prepaid electricity metering.

In recent years, the STS prepaid meter market has boomed across Kenya. For newly built rental homes and apartments, prepaid meters — and submeters in particular — are the perfect solution for landlords to manage power consumption. Landlords typically already have a primary meter supplied by KPLC. They install sub- meters for each tenant to achieve transparent, dependable billing. An STS prepaid meter allows electricity credit to be purchased through a token- based system. This model can provide users with better control over electricity consumption while helping property owners, distributors and energy operators improve payment collection.

Futurise provides solutions for projects evaluating STS prepaid metering and works with partners that are researching STS sub meter suppliers for residential, commercial and property- management applications.

For customers researching a prepaid meter, regulatory and certification requirements are an important part of the procurement process. Requirements should always be confirmed according to the latest applicable Kenyan regulations, project specifications and approval procedures rather than relying only on general product claims. At Futurise Technologies, all our products hold complete certifications, including STS, DLMS/COSEM, CE and ISO9001, together with full type test reports. These certificates guarantee the quality and durability of our products.

Also, we are launching a new model: a compact single- phase keypad integrated meter. It is a monobloc design, meaning it cannot accommodate additional communication modules such as GPRS, LoRaRF or PLC. It only supports token entry via the keypad. Nevertheless, it retains all core basic functions: bi- directional active energy measurement, meter reading and parameter configuration via the optical port, automatic disconnection when credit balance reaches zero, and multilevel low credit alarm, among others. This new model is our most cost- effective prepaid meter and the cheapest option within our prepaid meter portfolio. At this edition of the exhibition, this new meter model has attracted many customers. We received reservations for over 15,000 units during the exposition.

For buyers comparing Keypad Prepaid Meter Manufacturers, it is important to evaluate not only the meter itself but also keypad durability, security, token compatibility, testing, documentation and after- sales support. A reliable Keypad Prepaid Meter Company should be able to provide technical information throughout the procurement process. For distributors, Wholesale Keypad Prepaid Meter supply can also be suitable for larger residential and commercial projects.

DIN-Rail Metering and Communication Technology

Compact installation was another area of interest during our discussions.

As Din- rail Meter Manufacturers, our solutions are designed for applications where installation space, modularity and convenient integration are important. The STS Prepaid Din- rail Meter concept is particularly suitable for certain sub- metering, distribution- board and residential applications.

In Kenya, clients often choose QPM16- D, Din- rail prepaid meter with a PLC CIU.PLC means power line carrier, which communication distance can reach to 500 meters.

Depending on the project architecture, electricity meters can use different communication technologies, including PLC, RF, RS485, near- infrared communication. There is no single communication technology that is ideal for every project. The right solution depends on installation distance, network environment, data requirements, maintenance requirements and project budget.

Customers searching for a kenya token prepaid meter were particularly interested in how the meter, token and vending process work together.

The key question is not simply whether one technology is better than another. It is whether the selected architecture matches the customer's actual operational requirements.

From Electricity Metering to Water Metering

Power & Energy Kenya also demonstrated that African property and infrastructure projects increasingly require multiple types of metering.

In addition to electricity, Futurise is exploring opportunities related to Water Meter Manufacturers and water sub- metering.

For residential developments, a DN15 Water Meter Supplier may be required for individual apartments or rooms. For distributors and contractors, Wholesale Water Meter supply can provide a practical procurement model for larger projects.

Prepaid water metering can also help property managers establish a clearer relationship between consumption and payment. Depending on the project, customers may evaluate Prepaid Keypad Water Meter Suppliers, a Prepaid Keypad Water Meter Factory, or STS Split Prepaid Water Meter Suppliers.

Our capabilities also include Split Prepaid Water Meter Factory solutions for applications where the measuring unit and user interface need to be physically separated.

For specialized DC applications, we also discuss Wholesale DC Meter requirements, where voltage, current, communication and system architecture need to be confirmed before procurement.

What Customers Said About Futurise Prepaid Metering Solutions

Long before the exhibition, Mr. Chris had already discovered our products through our TikTok videos and had been looking forward to checking out our meters on- site. With previous sales experience of Wi- Fi DIN rail meters, he is now upgrading his business with smarter power management solutions, which drove him to explore our QPM16 series prepaid meters.

Mr. Chris has two core business demands for different application scenarios. For ordinary rental houses, he needs basic keypad prepaid meters to simplify daily electricity management for landlords. For high- end residential projects, he requires advanced smart prepaid meters that allow end users to recharge electricity remotely without going out. In addition, he hopes to obtain our open API interface to realize local payment compatibility with M- pesa and achieve localized and intelligent payment management.

Based on his differentiated needs, we recommended two classic models from our product lineup. The first is our basic integrated keypad prepaid meter. Tenants need to pay rent first, after which landlords generate recharge tokens via the system and complete manual recharge for the meters. The second is our upgraded 4G smart prepaid meter, which supports direct system recharge by landlords and remote power cut- off function for emergency and daily management scenarios.

We demonstrated the full operation process of both meter models for Mr. Chris on site. Highly satisfied with the product performance and functional design, he placed a trial order of 500 units for each model during the exhibition.

Another visitor, who works with electrical and energy projects in the region, highlighted the importance of flexibility when selecting a metering solution. "Different projects have different requirements. Some customers may need a simple single- phase prepaid meter, while others may require three- phase metering, DIN- rail installation, communication functions, or a complete vending system. What we are looking for is not just a meter, but a solution that can fit the actual application, installation environment, and local market requirements. The combination of prepaid functionality and sub- metering makes this type of solution particularly interesting for apartments, rental properties, commercial buildings, and other multi- user applications."

These customer perspectives underline an important trend in the regional electricity market: prepaid metering is increasingly being considered not only as a payment solution, but also as a practical approach to energy management, revenue protection, consumption control, and multi- tenant electricity allocation.

The conversations at Power & Energy Kenya 2026 provided valuable insight into the practical requirements of customers across Kenya and the wider East African market, particularly for projects involving residential properties, commercial buildings, distributors, contractors, and electricity sub- metering.

What We Learned from the Kenyan Market

Our participation in Power & Energy Kenya 2026 reinforced our understanding that East Africa is not a single homogeneous metering market.

Different utilities, property owners, distributors and contractors have different requirements.

Some projects prioritize prepaid token management. Others require remote communication and centralized monitoring. Some property owners need simple sub- metering, while larger energy projects may require smart meters integrated into an AMI or energy- management platform.

This is why Futurise continues to focus on both product development and application engineering.

As an Electric Meter Factory, we support different meter configurations and project requirements while maintaining structured processes for production, testing and quality control.

For customers researching electric power meter Manufacturers or an electric power meter Factory, we recommend evaluating the complete supplier capability rather than looking only at the lowest product price.

Important evaluation factors include:

Product certification and compliance
Factory production capability
Meter accuracy and testing
Communication compatibility
Prepaid and vending- system integration
Technical documentation
Customization capability
Warranty and after- sales support
Long- term spare- parts and supply capability

Looking Ahead: Building Partnerships in East Africa

Power & Energy Kenya gave Futurise, our company, the opportunity to have direct conversations with people who design, purchase, install and operate electricity and water metering systems. This time we also went to our distributor's shop and on site installation, to give them practical technical supports.

These conversations covered practical questions such as how to manage electricity costs in rental properties, how to select between token- based and connected metering, how to integrate meters into existing systems and how to establish a reliable procurement and after- sales process.

For us, these discussions are an important part of product development.

We believe credibility in the metering industry is built through real engineering experience, transparent product information, and a clear understanding of customers' actual applications—not simply through broad claims about technology.

Regulatory and certification requirements should always be verified against the latest requirements of the relevant authority and individual project. Likewise, meter selection should be based on actual electrical, communication and operational requirements.

Continuing Our Journey in Africa

The African energy market continues to create opportunities for prepaid electricity, smart metering, sub- metering and digital energy management.

Prepaid systems can improve payment control. Smart meters can provide richer operational data. Sub- metering can help landlords allocate energy costs more transparently. Communication technologies can connect field meters with centralized energy- management platforms.

Our participation in Power & Energy Kenya 2026 strengthened Futurise's understanding of these market needs and, more importantly, helped us establish new conversations with potential partners across Kenya and East Africa.

As we continue working with distributors, contractors, property managers and energy professionals, our goal remains simple: to provide reliable metering products supported by practical technical expertise and responsive service.
